Vancouver, Canada-based boutique pro audio firm Sonic Farm has unveiled the Creamer, a “very colored and warm, as opposed to neutral” tube microphone preamplifier.
Featuring a single EF86 tube as its only active gain stage, a modern discrete transistor buffer circuit to drive the Cinemag-type output transformer, “this hybrid-based pentode design helps preserve detail in the sonic image ... with an abundance of pleasing harmonics.” The company then insists, “This may be just what you need for your dark-sounding, low-signal output ribbon microphones.”
The Creamer can be ordered with Ni-Fe alloy or pure steel output transformers: Creamer A has 2 Ni-Fe alloy core output transformers, Creamer B has 2 pure steel core output transformers, and Creamer AB features one of each (channel 1 with Ni-Fe transformer and channel 2 with pure steel).
Stay tuned to the pages of PAR for a full review of the Creamer.
