Plymouth, MN (February 3, 2004)–Sonic Studio, LLC, manufacturers of the Sonic Studio line of professional audio workstations, has announced shipment of the first product in their all new DSD/SACD product line. The Sonic Studio DSD.1 system combines the Sonic Studio editing and mastering environment with the emerging standard for music recording and delivery, Direct Stream Digital (DSD) and Super Audio CD (SACD). Sonic Studio also revealed an all new discounted pricing structure for their DSD/SACD line with systems starting at $7,995.
“The Sonic Studio product line has played a central role in professional audio production and restoration since the dawn of digital recording,” said Jeff Wilson, CEO of Sonic Studio, LLC. “We’re thrilled to offer the speed and efficiency of the Sonic Studio toolset to those studios needing to master in this exciting new format. And, with our new pricing, Sonic Studio DSD/SACD mastering is available to facilities of any size.”
Developed in cooperation with Sony and Phillips, the format’s creators, DSD.1 is comprised of a full length PCI interface card supporting 8 bidirectional channels of DSD via the SDIF-3 protocol or DSD-raw. Recording and editing is performed entirely within the DSD domain at 64fs using the Sonic Studio editing environment. In addition to its multichannel DSD recording capability, DSD.1 also imports preexisting DSD files as long as they are compliant with the DSD-IFF standard file format. DSD.1 is shipped in two configurations, a base system and a version that includes SACD authoring functionality similar to Sonic Studio’s upcoming SACD.1 standalone authoring tool. Final SACD compliant cutting masters are written to Sony AIT Type 1 tape cartridges for delivery to the manufacturing plant. DSD.1 with Authoring also includes full DST encoding for authoring SACD’s in 6 channel surround.
In addition to the DSD.1, Sonic Studio will soon release two other DSD/SACD products: A standalone software only authoring app called SACD.1 and DSD.x, an add-on processing board for the DSD.1 which adds Sony Oxford-based mixing, DSD-native filtering and processing, and the SuperMAC multichannel I/O interface.
