Nashville, TN (May 17, 2005)–The Sound Kitchen recently installed an SSL XL 9000K in Studio D, which they obtained from Professional Audio Design’s (PAD) liquidation of NYC’s The Hit Factory. In addition to the opening of the newly refurbished Studio D, Sound Kitchen is hosting the 8th Annual Audio Masters pre-party Thursday, May 19 from 6-9pm. This year’s party is a Tex-Mex theme and will include a nine-piece salsa band for its anticipated 300-400 guests.
PAD also furnished Studio D with Augspurger 2 x 15″ with Horn Custom speakers finished in Austin Martin Sky Grey Metallic with Crown MA5000 and Bryston Amps; the BSS OmniDrive FDS366 Digital Speaker Management system; Universal Audio 1176LN Blackface Reissue Compressor; TC Electronics D. Two Delay and 2 x Lexicon PCM 42 Digital Delays; and a Gefen Extender system for the Pro Tools monitor and keyboard.
Sound Kitchen’s Studio D, newly equipped with the SSL XL 9000 K console
“We looked at the console when it was still at The Hit Factory and within a week the deal was done,” said Sharon Corbitt, Sound Kitchen studio manager. “We immediately started making preparations for the room and construction. PAD turned this around very quickly. They cleaned it up, certified it and installed it. We had studio construction experts that are trained in studio design working around the clock seven days a week to get the room ready.”
Working with notable musicians such as Gretchen Wilson, Faith Hill, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Keith Urban and Kid Rock, the Sound Kitchen knew they wanted another SSL console so clients would be able to track on the SSL 4064G+ and be able to mix on the other.
“Many of our clients, who have worked on SSL 9000Ks, have expressed positive feedback,” commented Corbitt. “They love the sound and the way their records are coming off the console, so we decided that’s what we were going to go with. We wanted to be able to provide everything under one roof. The very first project being mixed on the console is the new Brooks and Dunn record.”
In addition to the opening of the newly refurbished Studio D, Sound Kitchen is also hosting the 8th Annual Audio Masters pre-party. Each year studios, engineers, pro audio vendors and manufacturers donate gear and services to our silent auction. All profits from this auction go to the Nashville Engineer Relief Fund, a benevolent fund begun 8 years ago by the Nashville Chapter of AES. PAD is a co-sponsor of the event.
“It was very exciting to work with Sound Kitchen as they renovated Studio D,” said Dave Malekpour, president of PAD. “We were very pleased with how quickly and efficiently everything was completed from the time the managers saw the console to the certification and installation. Having the party at Sound Kitchen is the icing on the cake, since many people will get to see the beautiful new room for the first time. This party is really a great opportunity for the Nashville community to come together and we’re glad to support Sound Kitchen and the Nashville Engineer Relief Fund.”
