St. Louis (December 6, 2004)–The First Evangelical Free Church in St Louis, MO recently received a new audio system installation by local audio provider Logic Systems Sound and Lighting Inc. The system is based around Nexo Geo S Series line array loudspeakers.
The building’s acoustics were compromised by the architect’s decision to install a large stained glass cross from the old sanctuary. According to Logic Systems’ president, Chip Self, “the problem was that the stained glass cross was 10 feet taller than the new sanctuary. The architect increased overall ceiling height by 12-14′ across the entirety of the sanctuary, and added a balcony. The change in ceiling height and seating areas drastically changed the geometry and acoustic character of the space.”
Given the harsh room acoustics, Self decided to use Nexo Geo S Series line array loudspeakers. Logic Systems designed a system which incorporated three Geo S arrays, flown in a LCR configuration. A total of five elements were included in each array to provide just over 90 degrees of vertical coverage. Self reported, “All three clusters were suspended 3 feet below the drywall ceiling to eliminate interference from adjacent ceiling geometry. By lowering the array, we eliminated many of the reflection issues that had plagued the prior system. “
