StreamAudio Adds Web Radio Data Collection

San Jose, CA (January 22, 2008)--StreamAudio, which provides internet streaming services for 500 radio stations, has completed trials of a new feature that complies with the "per song per listener" requirements of the RIAA royalty rates imposed by the Copyright Royalty Board last year.

San Jose, CA (January 22, 2008)--StreamAudio, which provides internet streaming services for 500 radio stations, has completed trials of a new feature that complies with the "per song per listener" requirements of the RIAA royalty rates imposed by the Copyright Royalty Board last year.

Previously, royalties were based on how many "aggregate tuning hours" a station streamed on the internet. The new rules require that radio stations now capture and report this data by song.

Darren Harle, president and general manager of StreamAudio, said, "This new data definition and collection requirement by the RIAA basically requires stations to record the number of listeners for each song played in a given month and to aggregate this data at the end of each month across all songs. Compared to the previous definition, this new requirement expands the data collection and data storage requirement for the new 'performances' by a factor of up to 50 times that of the recent past."

Brian Rozelle, director of technology for Emmis Interactive, said, "Without this information of listener hours by song to calculate and pay our RIAA royalties, Emmis Communications might have been forced to discontinue streaming its 16 stations that stream now. We are very pleased that StreamAudio was able to provide this capability to us in record time; and with this capability we can continue to stream with the peace of mind of knowing that we are conforming to the RIAA royalty requirements."

"With an installed base of over 500 radio stations and commercial delivery of over 12 million streaming hours per month, we were forced to install a new server farm just to handle this new volume of data."
