Kitchener, ON (February 26, 2004)--Tannoy has introduced two new compact active subwoofers--the TS8 and TS10--designed for studio monitoring and playback of multichannel recordings. Despite the high power and very low frequency performance, both models are less than 1 cubic foot in size, including the attractive coned-shaped spiked feet.

The TS8 is a 12.5 litre closed box design with a down-firing 200mm (8") drive unit driven by a 200Watt RMS amplifier. The TS10 is a slightly larger 16.75 litre closed box design with a down-firing 250mm (10") drive unit driven by a 300Watt RMS amplifier. The low frequency output (-6dB) of the TS8 and TS10 operates down to 32Hz and 29Hz respectively.

The Bash amplifier technology utilized in the subwoofers is a patented high efficiency power amplifier circuit topology that has taken the best of Class D and Class AB and created a new class of its own. The digital power amplifier with its patented switch mode power supply delivers exceptional performance and excellent bandwidth with long-term reliability.

For recording studio use, XLR sockets are provided for direct connection to the mixing desk and output to active main speakers. The output can be selected as either a direct feed or switched to provide an 80Hz HIPASS function. These versatile subwoofers offer stereo line level inputs with a variable control allowing the low frequency extension to be adjusted manually from around 60Hz down to the unit's lowest operating frequency. This useful feature ensures the optimum settings for music or home cinema listening, adjustment to match the relative level of the main speakers or just setting to personal taste.

Other features of both the TS8 and TS10 include an auto power on and sleep function whereby the system will go into a 'stand-by' mode if no signal is detected for approximately 12 minutes. Circuitry is fitted to limit the maximum sound output in order to eliminate audible distortion. There is a gain control to adjust output level and a phase control to allow more precise matching with the room and the rest of the system.

In their soft-touch grey finish, these new Tannoy subwoofers are unobtrusive in both color and size. Both models are currently available.
