Santa Monica, CA (September 1, 2006)–The Producers & Engineers Wing (P&E Wing) of The Recording Academy will play a pivotal role in the Grammys on the Hill events on September 6, 2006, in Washington, D.C. A highlight of the day will be a “Making The Record” recording session with members of Congress and two-time Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson. Grammys on the Hill connects top recording artists and songwriters with leading members of Congress in the nation’s capital.
Presented before an audience of 200 – 250, including members of Congress, and produced by The Recording Academy’s P&E Wing, the “Making The Record” recording session will feature Clarkson and band jamming with members of the Recording Arts and Sciences Congressional Caucus. The event will take place in a temporary recording studio set up in the Cannon House Office Building Caucus Room on Capitol Hill. Grammy-winning musicians, songwriters, producers and engineers–along with the “Congressional Grammy Band” (a group of musically inclined members of Congress)–will demonstrate the exciting process of creating a record.
Produced by a team of P&E Wing leaders including engineer Malcolm Harper of Austin, TX’s Reelsound Recording (Los Lonely Boys, Death Cab for Cutie, Keith Urban), producer/engineer Glenn Lorbecki of Seattle’s Glenn Sound (Goo Goo Dolls, Weezer, White Stripes) and producer/engineer Mike Clink (Guns ‘N Roses, Aerosmith, Megadeth), the recording will highlight the roles of the songwriter, artist, producer and engineer in the recording process.
For the project, a studio will be constructed with the help of GC Pro, JBL Professional (recording studio and live sound reinforcement speakers), Shure Incorporated (microphones and in-ear monitors), Solid State Logic (recording consoles), Auralex Acoustics (acoustical treatment), and equipment rental firms Advanced Audio of Los Angeles and AVHQ of Lanham, Md.
“Advocacy for the interests of the music recording community is an important part of the P&E Wing’s mission,” commented P&E Wing executive director Maureen Droney. “We’re thrilled to be playing an integral part in Grammys on the Hill and this high-profile recording session which spotlights the people, from songwriter and session musician to producer and engineer, who work behind the scenes to create music.”
