New York, NY (November 29, 2005)–CMP Entertainment Media, Inc., the producer of the Surround 2005 Conference and Showcase, has announced that Tomlinson Holman will present a keynote presentation during Surround 2005, which takes place December 15-16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
Holman has devoted his career to the advancement of audio technologies, and his name has become synonymous with surround sound. Holman was chief electrical engineer at Advent Corporation, founded Apt Corporation, maker of the Apt/Holman preamplifier, and was at Lucasfilm Ltd for 15 years, winding up as the company’s Corporate Technical Director and where he developed the THX Sound System and its companions the Theater Alignment Program, Home THX, and the THX Digital Mastering program.
In addition to being the founding editor of Surround Professional magazine and the author of the books Sound for Film and Television and 5.1 Surround Sound: Up and Running, Holman is also professor of Film Sound at the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television and a principal investigator in the Integrated Media Systems Center at the university.
“As surround changes in its various markets, the field remains fascinating, and one that has a lot of expressive range to offer that can’t be done by other means,” stated Holman. “I am delighted to be asked to deliver the keynote for Surround 2005, which will trace the changes in the various areas, both in commercial and in artistic terms. I hope to use this as a platform for better cross-understanding amongst music, film, games, and other users of surround sound.”
“There are few people as knowledgeable about surround sound as Tom Holman, and even fewer that communicate that knowledge so well,” stated Frank Wells, conference co-chairman for Surround 2005. “We acknowledged his contributions to the art and science of surround during last year’s Surround Music Awards by giving him our Surround Trailblazer Award, and we are very pleased to have him back this year as a keynote speaker.”
Holman’s keynote address will encompass his History of Surround presentation, which has been a favorite for attendees of past Surround Conferences. As an exclusive for those attending the Surround 2005 conferences, Holman will expand upon his talk and reveal his predictions for the future of surround sound.
Surround 2005 is the 7th Annual Conference and Showcase for the people who produce surround sound. It is being held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, and includes the 4th Annual Surround Music Awards, which take place on December 15th.
