Cupertino, CA/Videb¾k, Denmark (March 11, 2005)–Tymphany Corporation, inventor of the Tymphany Linear Array Transducer (LAT); and Danish Sound Technology (DST), manufacturer of audio transducers, have merged. The merger will combine Tymphany’s audio technologies with DST’s audio engineering talent to deliver audio transducer solutions to, according to the companies, “revolutionize the sound and shape of consumer and professional audio products.”
“There is a significant opportunity for a new breed of audio transducer company that can meet the unique audio requirements posed by today’s evolving consumer products,” said Michael Hackworth, Tymphany chairman and CEO. “The company that will fulfill this role must have a passion for innovation. In this regard, we excel. In just a short period of time, Tymphany has fundamentally reshaped audio transducer technology, while a host of DST patents have produced market-leading brands. As a combined company, we will continue to fuel audio innovation through a deep investment in research and development.”
The combined company will focus on advances in audio sound generation, drawing on one of the largest audio engineering teams in the world, with design centers in Denmark, China and the U.S. Under the agreement, the newly merged company will combine the assets of Tymphany Corporation and the Scan-Speak, Peerless, Vifa and Logic brands from DST. The new company will build on the established quality of the DST brands and introduce the recent Tymphany LAT technology to the market. Vifa International A/S, the home audio products provider, will remain an independent company.
“Audio engineering expertise and discipline have been the hallmarks of DST product lines for over 70 years,” said Tonni Birk, DST managing director. “The new company will be expanding on this heritage to deliver optimized solutions to meet even the most demanding consumer and professional audio requirements at the best price to audio performance available in the industry.”
The newly formed company will continue to deliver audio transducer solutions, with hand-built manufacturing of high-execution transducers out of Denmark. Price/performance solutions will be manufactured by the company’s Chinese manufacturing plant in PanYu, and the company will partner as needed with selected strategic ODMs to ensure responsiveness to customer demands.
The combined company will be named Tymphany Corporation with headquarters in Cupertino, CA. Hackworth will head the company, along with co-founder Kenneth Kantor directing technical strategy and innovation. Birk will continue as managing director of the DST Brands based in Videbaek, Denmark. VantagePoint Venture Partners is funding the investment.
