Cleveland OH (November 17, 2004)–When Jefferson-Pilot’s Miami cluster changed programming brokerage agreements and formats for its WAXY-AM property, they needed an affordable way to provide continuous program recording for later re-use, and they needed it to be completely segregated and secured from their other stations’ networks. According to Gary Blau, director of engineering for Jefferson-Pilot’s Miami stations, Telos ProFiler was the answer to their problem.
“We bought ProFiler for our new LMA’d sports format on WAXY-AM, primarily for use as an aircheck ‘catch basin’ for promotional announcements and other things we need to archive,” said Blau. “ProFiler solved a particular problem for us with WAXY because we needed to keep this ‘logger’ off our house LAN and give access to it to non-employees–the LMA operators–whose computers live on a totally separate network. ProFiler fills the bill nicely.”
ProFiler gives remote users password-protected access to time-stamped archived audio using a LAN, WAN or Internet connection. “The fact that pricing was also quite reasonable made ProFiler a quick and easy solution,” added Blau.
ProFiler gives programmers several logging options, including continuous archival storage of program material, recording only when talent mics are open, or recording only when talent mics are closed. The ProFiler package includes a Telos professional balanced-I/O audio card with an opto-isolated GPI port that allows consoles and other devices to provide contact-closure skimmer activation, if desired.
Along with logging and skimming functions, ProFiler provides a suite of tools to aid in quick assembly of airchecks and composites, and in capturing programs for rebroadcast. Users can choose the bit-rate at which audio is logged. An exclusive “SmartSkim” mode helps balance audio quality with space-efficiency by archiving non-critical programming using maximum compression, switching automatically to high-quality skimming when talent mics are open.
