San Diego, CA (August 4, 2004)–Robert Herring, Sr., founder, CEO and president of Herring Broadcasting, Inc., had a few specific demands for his new network, WealthTV. It had to broadcast in High-Definition (HD), be built by the best, be equipped with the finest, and launch in late Q2.
Herring turned to A. F. Associates (AFA) and Ascent Media’s Systems & Technology Services (S&TS) to design, build and deliver a start-up cable network and satellite facility in San Diego, CA. The project was the first to tap the combined resources of AFA and its newly acquired west coast location (former Sony Systems Integration).
Successfully launched on June 1, 2004, weeks ahead of schedule, WealthTV uplinks a primary, High-Definition 1080i signal plus a downconverted standard digital signal to reach the maximum number of subscribers. The 40,000 sq. ft. facility, one of the most advanced, state-of-the-art High-Definition TV studios ever built, utilizes the latest HD technology by Sony, designed and installed by AFA. Dolby surround sound processing is featured with a Sony DMX-R100 audio mixer. Dolby Digital 5.1 encoders feed the audio along with the video to Motorola encoding equipment for the uplink.
“We are excited about playing such a critical role in the launch of a startup High-Definition channel,” stated Tom Canavan, president of AFA, and senior vice president, Ascent Media S&TS. “WealthTV is the perfect project to demonstrate the depth of Ascent Media’s all-encompassing ability to provide an ‘end-to-end solution,’ from production to playout through satellite systems.”
The 24/7 cable TV network initially reached out to approximately 750,000 subscribers and hopes to be received in 80 million homes around the globe via cable and satellite service providers.
