Quincy, IL (February 2, 2009)--Broadcast Electronics (BE)-equipped country music radio station WLDR 101.9 FM in northern Michigan has joined the fraternity of more than 1,800 HD Radio stations across the country.
"WLDR's investment in HD Radio affirms that there are benefits to multi-channel technology for small and mid-market stations serving the nation's heartland. We at BE are honored to be a part of this important day in WLDR's and HD Radio's history," said Debra Huttenburg, vice president, sales and marketing for BE.
WLDR FM is one of the early adopters of HD Radio in the small- to mid-market tier, serving a population of less than 150,000. It began transmitting HD Radio along with two additional multicast channels and iTunes tagging on January 7, 2009, after months of preparation and a new transmission facility equipped with BE's FMi 1405 HD Radio transmitter into an ERI antenna system interleaving an eight-bay superpowered ROTOTILLER antenna with a six-bay antenna. The system is outputting the current HD Radio power specification.
WLDR FM is broadcasting a new Fox sports channel and another smooth jazz format on HD2 and HD3, respectively, in addition to the main country format broadcasting on HD1. The sports format is being fed via satellite and is the first HD2 Fox sports channel in the country.
WLDR FM added BE's The Radio Experience data management system with iTunes tagging plug-in. Listeners tuned into the station on an HD Radio receiver can now "tag" songs they hear on-air for later purchase and download to their iPods. The latest generation of HD Radio receivers has a button they can press for this and other commerce purposes.
