Yamaha's MY16-MD64 card. Buena Park, CA (October 16, 2007)-At the AES Convention last week, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems introduced expansion cards that will enable MADI and EtherSound input and output connectivity.

The Yamaha MY16-MD64 card adds 16 channels of MADI input and output connectivity to Yamaha professional audio devices accepting mini-YGDAI expansion; add up to three MY16-EX expansion cards to the core MY16-MD64 card and increase the MADI channel capacity up to 64 channels.

The Yamaha MY16-ES64 card adds 16 channels of bi-directional EtherSound connectivity; add up to three MY16-EX expansion cards to the core MY16-ES64 card and increase the EtherSound channel capacity up to 64 channels.

The MY16-MD64 card provides failsafe redundancy with automatic switching from optical to coaxial input and outputs in case of accidental disconnection. In addition to direct connection to other Yamaha professional audio equipment equipped the MY16-MD64 cards and MY16-EX cards communicate seamlessly with MADI devices from other manufactures allowing networks of just about any size to be created to suit the widest possible range of applications and when MADI format is used for connection if running Steinberg software for digital audio workstation recording and production.

Since the EtherSound protocol is bi-directional, not only can consoles be equipped with MY16-ES64 and MY16-EX cards to provide the required EtherSound input and output capability for recording, but as an ideal stage box solution when in a live sound environment. Additional cards can be installed into the new Yamaha TXn series power amp or for use with a Yamaha AD8HR to remotely control head amplifiers connected via a Yamaha NAI48-ES EtherSound Network Audio Interface.

States Marc Lopez, marketing manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems: "These new cards enable protocol solutions that not only expand audio channel capabilities while providing superb sound quality, but also keep the challenges of excessive cabling in-studio or in a concert situation to a minimum."

Both the MY16-ES64 and MY16-EX will be available in December 2007. The Yamaha MY16-MD64 will be available in May 2008.
