New York, NY (March 18, 2008)–Yessian Music recently wrapped up a :60 spot for Rexona/Unilever entitled “Futurisk,” integrating sound design by Jeff Dittenber of Yessian/Detroit and original music by Dan Zank of Yessian/NY with special effects created by The Mill/Los Angeles.
The Unilever spot, created by ad agency Lowe Worldwide/New York, takes place in a futuristic setting, with a young man getting ready for work. A robotic arm sprays the Unilever deodorant onto his armpit while a computerized voice announces, “Meeting in five minutes.” Rushing through street traffic, the music and sound design integrated with the special effects begin to take on life as a terrifying robotic dog barks at his heels. He hops on his jet pack and zips over the city, landing on a rooftop. An intense “futuristic” alarm lashes out at him; he escapes, making it on time and sweat-free for the meeting, proving that the new Rexona Men Absolute deodorant is working and “Ready for protection.”
“It makes my job easy with such an inspiring visual to work to,” said composer Dan Zank. “This project was interesting in that it felt more like scoring a film than a short form visual. With the shifts in intensity from one scene to the next, to the use of real orchestral elements in the arrangement, we ended up with a very film-esque final score.”
“Working on the ‘Futurisk’ spot was one of those diamonds in the rough,” said Brian Yessian. “Since the visual effects were so intense, it was a long road for us on the sound design/music front as we were involved from the very early conceptual stages. We really treated this project as a long-form film project in developing a theme for the action and characters. The end result is a story told for a global audience carried by music; the language of the world.
