Hollywood, CA (February 6, 2013)-Hollywood audio post facility Artistry in Sound has opened a new mixing suite.
The new studio features dual Avid Icon consoles with Pro Tools 10, HD projection, and JBL Cinema Sound loudspeakers. Artistry in Sound has already completed work on two Lifetime movies, Ring of Fire and An Amish Murder, in the new suite.
"Ring of Fire, which tells the story of June Carter Cash, was a complex project," says Kenneth Johnson, owner and founder of Artistry in Sound, who brought Rick Ash on-board as the re-recording mixer to handle dialog and music. Johnson says, "I have worked with Rick on many HBO projects previously and always appreciated his talent and work ethic."
Integrating the production dialog on Ring of Fire as it transitioned into song was critical. Ash explains, "It was important not to allow music to feel like pre-records."
In addition, crowds and atmospheres were integral to creating a natural space for the music to live, so extra care was required creating reverbs, delays and atmospheres. The music was richer sonically than much of the production sound, so in some instances, it needed to be degraded to create a uniform soundfield.
"In An Amish Murder, the production dialog was very challenging," adds Ash. "Canadian exteriors in late fall made for brittle footsteps and production debris."
Ash says it was a very was a gratifying experience working with Johnson and the new stage at Artistry in Sound. "I've opened many stages over the years and am grateful to say, Artistry in Sound has done a great job," he states. "I think AIS has hit the mark. It's a lean, clean, client friendly machine that can offer excellence at a competitive price. I hope to collaborate with Ken again. He's got a winning formula and I hope L.A. film makers have the opportunity to experience this."
