Awards are given in 24 categories; competition for awards is strong as there were over 580 entries last year. Entries are free to CBI members and non-members pay $50 per entry.

Award categories this year include Best TV and Radio Newscast, Promo, and Public Service Announcement as well as Best Sports Reporting, Best DJ, Best Imaging and Website among others.

Up to four finalists in each category are named by judging panels made up of professionals and advisors. CBI recognized over 90 student television and radio stations in 2011. Finalists will be announced in mid-August and winners will be announced at the Fall National Student Media Convention, which will be held in Atlanta, October 25-27, 2012.

CBI is an association of student electronic media outlets from around the county, including radio, TV, Internet and convergent technologies. The organization provides support and training via its active listservs, annual national convention, informative website and social networks as well as representation on national issues that may affect college broadcasting.
