New York, NY (December 7, 2016)—It’s a tale of two Tims. Twenty-year Avid veteran Tim Carroll is leaving the company at year’s end to become the new CEO of the Focusrite Group, taking the reigns from current CEO Dave Froker, who is retiring. As Carroll leaves behind his Avid position of vice president, audio products, that role will become the purview of Tim Claman, Avid’s vice president, platform and solutions.
During his stay at Avid, Carroll was deeply involved with the launch of the S6 control surface, and gained wide-ranging experience in sales and management, as well as knowledge of many of the sales channels that both Avid and Focusrite trade in. Currently based in Berkeley, CA, Carroll will relocate to the UK to work at Focusrite’s High Wycombe headquarters.
"I would like to thank Avid for 20 years of career growth and amazing opportunities,” said Carroll in a statement. “I am so very proud of everything we have accomplished to further music technology and the art of recording. I leave knowing the product team is in great hands with Tim Claman at the helm of such a passionate and dedicated team of professionals. I look forward to continuing Focusrite and Avid's current partnership and looking for new ways to work together as well.”
He added, The Focusrite team has a tremendous passion for providing state-of-the-art solutions for musicians and audio engineers, and I share that vision.”
Avid expects that Claman’s absorbing Carroll’s duties into his own will help further unite the development of Avid’s tools and workflow solutions for media creation, distribution and optimization under his leadership. He first came to Avid in 1998 with a background as an editor, sound designer and mixer, joining the company at the time as a senior product manager for Pro Tools in 1998. Over 14 years, he rose through the ranks to become CTO, before a two-year stint working for Snell Advanced Media (SAM) and Quantel from 2013 through 2015. Earlier this year, Claman rejoined Avid in February as VP, platform and solutions.
In a statement, Dana Ruzika, vice president and chief product officer, Avid, noted, “With his extensive experience in audio product development and in-depth knowledge of the music and post-production industries, Tim Claman is the ideal candidate to spearhead our audio product development efforts.”
He added, “We congratulate Tim Carroll on his new role at Focusrite and thank him for his many years of service at Avid. We look forward to further strengthening our long-standing relationship with Focusrite under his leadership.”
