Dolby Laboratories has appointed Doug Darrow as senior vice president of its cinema business.

San Francisco, CA (January 6, 2012)—Dolby Laboratories has appointed Doug Darrow as senior vice president of its cinema business.

Darrow will develop and execute strategies that build on Dolby’s position in cinema technologies and will be based in San Francisco. He will report to Ramzi Haidamus, executive vice president, sales and marketing.

Darrow was most recently president and CEO of Laser Light Engines, a start-up company developing solid-state red-green-blue (RGB) laser-illumination systems for high-brightness projectors. “Doug is a strong leader with a distinguished track record, and his broad experience makes him uniquely suited to realize the full potential of Dolby’s cinema business,” said Haidamus.

“His vision supported the growth and adoption of digital cinema, one of the industry’s most important and successful transitions. His marketing expertise, creativity and reputation for driving winning strategies make Doug the clear choice for this role. Most importantly, he shares our passion and a deep commitment to improving the movie experience, for our customers and for cinema lovers worldwide.”

Prior to joining Laser Light Engines, Darrow spent 24 years with Texas Instruments, serving most recently as general manager of its DLP Cinema products business, where he oversaw the development and marketing of DLP Cinema technology. “I have always had tremendous admiration for Dolby and its ability to move the industry forward,” he noted. “There’s never been a more exciting time for the cinema business, and I embrace this unique opportunity to lead the next phase of the company’s evolution. Dolby has an incredible market position, a strong brand, talented employees and amazing technologies. I am honored and excited to apply my background to help Dolby strengthen its position as one of the world’s preeminent cinema technology companies.”
