Expansive & Comprehensive, AES 2019 is Ready to Launch

By Clive Young. The AES Convention opens today in New York, bringing with it everything audio, from the latest gear to unsurpassed educational opportunities.

New York, NY (October 16, 2019)—New York City has its famous fall traditions, from holiday parades to the occasional World Series win, but for audio professionals, the arrival of cooler weather means just one thing-the return of the Audio Engineering Society Convention. And what’s not to love? There’s an exhibition floor teeming with exciting gear, both new and classic; there are workshops and panels that will expand your knowledge and enhance your craft; there are networking opportunities for catching up with industry friends and making new connections; and lots more. As the slogan goes, if it’s about audio, it’s at AES.

This doesn’t happen by accident; Valerie Tyler, AES New York 2019 Convention co-chair and AES secretary/Board of Directors member, noted, “We’re so proud of the team that came together to build the absolutely amazing program at the 147th AES Convention. We’ve expanded the comprehensive technical program to include more genres, a broader range of new technologies and a wider breadth of voices that ever before. There’s content that will meet every attendee’s interests and needs, as well as giving them the opportunity to expand their horizons.”

It’s all true. This year sees the introduction of much-anticipated tracks in EDM and Hip-Hop & R&B; expanded offerings in technologies ranging from immersive and spatial audio to game audio and XR; and more events that continue the Society’s ongoing mission of fostering inclusivity throughout the industry.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for something to do today besides eyeballing the exhibits, don’t miss the keynote address by Grandmaster Flash at the Opening Ceremonies, which kick off at noon in SE01. There’s also workshops with top recording pros all day long at the “Mix with the Masters” stage on the show floor; a look at designing podcast production studios (1E07) at 10:30 a.m. and at 3:45 p.m. in the same room; a deep dive into creating an immersive audio experience for live sports coverage. That’s just the tip of the iceberg to what’s available to see, hear and learn today, so make the most of your time here at AES.
