Q: What is your new position, and what does it entail?

Image placeholder title

A: I am senior market manager, tour sound for JBL Professional. My responsibilities include leading product development efforts for JBL’s world-class VerTec line-array systems and overseeing the continuing integration of JBL ’s tour sound products with other brands within the Harman family to develop an HPRO tour sound system solution.

Q: How has your background prepared you for your new role?

A: My previous background with two loudspeaker manufacturers and real-world experience with a major sound company, combined with sound design and system engineering for numerous tours, fixed installations and special events over the past 27 years have all helped to prepare me. I was also fortunate to be a graduate student with two legends in the audio industry, John Vanderkooy and Stanley Lipshitz, and have a unique academic perspective that helped in establishing training programs for both V-Dosc and VerTec. A genuine love of music, the thrill of a great live performance and the technology that helps make it happen doesn’t hurt either.

Q: What new marketing initiatives are we likely to see from the company?

A: It’s all about developing a tour sound system solution, and there are so many legendary brands to work with at Harman. JBL loudspeaker technology combined with Crown amplification and BSS Audio processing is a powerful combination. Version 5 presets, Crown VRack and JBL HiQnet Performance Manager are all examples of system-level developments that have taken VerTec to a higher level of performance. These developments also provide a strong foundation for future products that will leverage some revolutionary transducer technology in the future. Watch this space.

Q: What are your short- and long-term goals?

A: The introduction of our V5 presets speaks to our ongoing goals of improving the sonic performance of our VerTec line-array models, while the development of Performance Manager exemplifies our commitment to meet the very specific needs of audio professionals in the live sound industry. Longer-term goals are to develop tour sound products that feature the innovative transducer technologies that JBL Professional is known for while leveraging and building upon the system-level infrastructure that we are putting in place today.

Q: What is the greatest challenge that you face?

A: As part of the Harman family, we have the ability to draw from more resources than any other loudspeaker manufacturer in the world. My greatest challenge is finding ways to best apply those resources to meet the most important needs in the tour sound marketplace. The only way to accurately identify those needs is through a continuous and open dialogue with our customer base, which happens to be one of our greatest strengths as a company.
