New York, NY (January 29, 2016)—Nomad Factory founder Bernie Torelli, 60, passed away on January 18 after a three-year bout with cancer.
A producer, engineer and musician who had worked with the likes of Stanley Clarke and Brian Auger among others, Torelli developed his first plug-in more than 20 years ago, at the dawn of DAWs.
In a decision that was made by Torelli and the company before he passed as a ‘thank you’ to the pro audio community, one of the last plug-ins he worked on—an optical compressor called Bus Driver—is being released for free through the end of February.
Plug-in distributor DontCrack noted on its website:
“Two years ago, in December 2013, DontCrack asked the Audio Community to help the owner of Nomad Factory, Bernie Torelli, with a Raising Funds For Bernie campaign. The response was overwhelming, as we raised enough money to pay all the mounting hospital bills and keep Nomad Factory strong. Both Bernie and the DontCrack team were very touched by the incredible outcome of this fundraising drive and the flood of emails expressing concern for Bernie's condition.
This vast support from you all eased the stress and worry, to the point where Bernie could really get back to work. It quite literally put him back on his feet! It also let Nomad Factory get into a more comfortable position, enabling them to get extra people to handle the work that Bernie was not able to do, due to the impact of his struggle with his cancer.
As a ‘thank you’ for the support he had received, Torelli wanted to release Bus Driver for free; in his memory, DontCrack is seeing that through, and until the end of February, the plug-in can be downloaded from the DontCrack site, using the Voucher Code freebusdriver. Additionally, the distributor has put numerous other Nomad Factory plug-ins on sale, aiming at “helping his family with the unpaid hospital bills and other expenses that have accrued during his illness since the fund-raiser.”
