Los Angeles, CA (December 7, 2018)—The Recording Academy has announced the nominations for its 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards, including production, engineering, mixing, remixing and mastering acknowledgements.
For the first time, there are eight nominees in each of the General Field categories: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist. This year’s nominees were reportedly selected from more than 21,000 submissions across 84 categories.
Leading the production pack is mastering engineer Mike Bozzi, with five nominations for his work with Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino and Post Malone. Manny Marroquin, engineer/mixer on albums by Post Malone, Chromeo and Charlie Puth, received four nominations. Mastering engineer Dave Kutch got three nods for his contributions to projects by H.E.R., Janelle Monáe and Charlie Puth.
Kendrick Lamar leads the artist nominations with eight, for his work on the Black Panther movie soundtrack. Drake garnered seven nominations, while producer Boi-1Da and Americana singer Brandi Carlile received six each. Lamar, Drake and Carlile all scored hat tricks in the major categories, with nominations for record, song and album of the year.
The final round of GRAMMY voting is December 13, 2018–January 9, 2019. The Recording Academy will present the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, February 10, 2019, live from Los Angeles' Staples Center and broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 8:00–11:30 p.m. ET/5:00–8:30 p.m.
