Coronavirus Bumps Prolight + Sound 2020

Messe Frankfurt has postponed the annual European live sound/MI trade show Prolight + Sound 2020 due to the increasing spread of coronavirus in Europe.

Frankfurt, Germany (March 4, 2020)—Messe Frankfurt has decided to postpone Prolight + Sound 2020 due to the increasing spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in Europe. (SARS-CoV-2 is the name of the coronavirus that causes the respiratory disease COVID-19.)

The Prolight + Sound 2020 trade fair was originally planned for March 31 to April 3. The new dates for the show are May 26–29, 2020. Visitor admission tickets will continue to be valid for these new dates.

NAB Confirms 2020 NAB Show Is Still On

The ongoing spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in Europe called for a reassessment of the situation in close cooperation with the public-health authorities in Frankfurt who require that steps be taken to prevent event participants from high-risk regions coming to Frankfurt and visiting the fair when ill. Given that these participants could also be sick with COVID-19, it is necessary to conduct a health check to prevent the infection spreading even further. This is an important part of the infectiological risk assessment, but Messe Frankfurt is not able to implement such measures. The growing number of travel restrictions is another reason behind the postponement.

Speculation about the postponement of Prolight + Sound 2020 began when a major Germany-based pro audio exhibitor, Adam Hall Group, pulled out of the show due to coronavirus concerns. Despite this, Prolight + Sound maintained the show was still going ahead at the time.

Detlef Braun, member of the executive board of Messe Frankfurt, said, “The current situation represents a major challenge for fair and exhibition companies from all over the world. We regret that the 25th anniversary edition of Prolight + Sound cannot take place as planned. At the same time, we are delighted that numerous companies from the industry have emphasized the importance of holding the show as soon as possible so that they can use it for their product presentations and business development activities this year.”
