Xilica Bolsters Bills’ Suites

Closing out the NFL season third in their division with an 8-8 record, it was a rough year for the Buffalo Bills, but 2015 also marked a year of firsts for the football franchise. It was the team’s first full season with new owners Kim and Terrence Pegula, who bought the Bills the previous year following the death of the team’s longtime owner Ralph Wilson; the first season under new head coach Rex Ryan; and the first year with fans inside Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo NY enjoying the results of a year-long, venue-wide audio system upgrade.

Buffalo, NY (January 19, 2016)—Closing out the NFL season third in their division with an 8-8 record, it was a rough year for the Buffalo Bills, but 2015 also marked a year of firsts for the football franchise.

As part of the overall audio renovation, 36 private suites/boxes received audio system upgrades. Buffalo-based integration company AV Perfection, Ltd. was awarded the contract for the suite and box upgrades, drawing on its experience in installing integrated A/V systems in executive boardrooms, briefing rooms, video conferencing rooms, stadiums and arenas, both in New York and nationwide.

For the Bills project, AV Perfection chose to use Xilica’s Dante-enabled Uno-N Series processors and Mini Series wall controls for the installation. The Uno-N Series is an app-configured DSP that provides audio performance, Dante-networked audio, and application flexibility via the availability of custom Uno apps designed to the integrator’s needs.

In this case, the requirements were that four audio sources from different stadium locations be transported over Ethernet cable using Dante network audio into a Dante-enabled Uno U0816-N processor. That U0816-N DSP has its inputs matrixed to Zone One of the private suites/boxes, as well as into two Uno U0816 processors. Those two U0816 processors have the four source inputs matrixed to the private suites/boxes in Zones 2 and 3—making for a total of 36 suites.

In each private suite, a custom Mini S4K1 programmable, networked wall control provides the four-source selection and a suite master volume control. Xilica’s standard Mini Series wall mount controls have a 2 gang-sized front panel, but the existing back boxes in each suite were 3 gang. Overcoming the issue, Xilica was able to manufacture, assemble, test, and supply 3 gang-sized front-panel Mini S4K1 wall controls for Av Percfection to use instead. Despite being custom made for the project, the controls were delivered ahead of the tight installation schedule.

The Uno-N processors, the 36 Mini S4K1 suite located wall controls, and the Dante audio sources are configured as a Dante audio network. A router assigns and manages IP addresses and a PoE switch powers the 36 x wall mount controls.
