New IEM is first with electrostatic drivers and an internal transformer, says Alclair.

Osseo, MN (June 18, 2018)—Alclair Audio has introduces the Electro six-driver electrostatic hybrid in-ear monitor—which it claims is the first IEM to sport electrostatic drivers with an internal transformer.

The Electro, intended for both studio and stage use, is based around four balanced armature drivers and dual electrostatic tweeters, as well as dual low-end drivers.

Alclair reports that one of the challenges it faced in creating the IEMs was the need for a transformer to charge the device, which complicated the effort fit it into a small form factor such as those needed for in-ear monitors and ear buds.

The result, it says however, is IEMs that provide a wide soundstage due to the electrostatic tweeters while the armature drivers provide low end.
