At AES: Waves Bows Abbey Road Plug-In

At the AES Convention, Waves Audio has introduced the Abbey Road Vinyl plug-in, which aims to provide the “vintage warmth” of vinyl by modeling Abbey Road Studios’ vinyl cutting and mastering gear.

Los Angeles, CA (September 30, 2016)—At the AES Convention, Waves Audio has introduced the Abbey Road Vinyl plug-in, which aims to provide the “vintage warmth” of vinyl by modeling Abbey Road Studios’ vinyl cutting and mastering gear.

Designed in collaboration with Abbey Road Studios, the plug-in reproduces every stage of the vinyl production and playback process, allowing users to choose between the sound of a pure acetate (lacquer) cut or the print master vinyl pressing from the factory; play the records on two distinct turntable types with a choice of three classic cartridges; and add the TG12410 mastering console on the path into the vinyl lathe.

In an effort to faithfully reproduce the vinyl experience, the plug-in lets users move the location of the virtual tone arm across the record, changing the frequency response and distortion as happens with a physical record.

Users can also add vinyl noise and crackle, apply a gradual slow-down/stop turntable effect, and add wow and flutter effects.
