Dawn Pro Audio AW-4 acoustic waveguide loudspeaker with top grill removed
Hebron, KY (June 25, 2014)—Dawn Pro Audio has announced its new AW portable speaker line to debut in Q4, employing original acoustic waveguide technology to cover a 180-degree listening area by using separate waveguides for directing mid and high frequency sound and a tri-amped Class D amplifier.
The Dawn AW4 features four drivers in 3-way configuration and a 1,000-watt Class D amp. A smaller, battery-powered version, the Dawn AW3, features three drivers in 3-way design and a 40W linear amp. Both models use the same Dawn-designed waveguides and incorporate 3-channel mixers with mic/line-in, 1/8”, and Bluetooth aux inputs on the rear panel.
“We believe the AW Series will redefine wide dispersion in loudspeaker design,” said Matt Thornton, Dawns’ director of sales and marketing and a former audio engineer. “These speakers deliver a remarkably even and consistent sound, a premium sound, across the audible spectrum. The sound and volume level listeners hear at a given distance is the same as much a 90 degrees off-axis from the front of the speaker. As a result the audio sounds better for everyone in the audience. In many cases, a single speaker can cover the same area as two traditional dispersion speakers.”
The design features of both models are upward-firing mid and high range drivers, with each driver directed toward a different waveguide. The AW4 also includes two front firing low-range drivers; the AW3, one.
Dawn also introduced the AW1, a 1000-watt powered subwooferwith a 12-inch driver, as a companion for the AW4.
Both the AW4 and AW3 include Dawn Pro Audio’s “System Link” technology, which enables an input to any one speaker to be played through all speakers in the system.
