Madrid, Spain-based boutique analog gear manufacturer Heritage Audio has introduced “the most historically accurate reproduction ever made” of Neve’s legendary 1073 microphone preamplifier. “Using the same exact components, specifications, and, equally important, the same time-consuming construction techniques, our 1073 looks and sounds as good as a Rupert Neve-era 1073 module, and will last as long,” offers Heritage Audio.
The 1073 is an 80dB Class A microphone preamplifier, with “hi-lo” selectable minimum input impedance, balanced and floating; its high gain positions deliver higher impedance -- ideal for old ribbon mics. Other specifications include a 10dB Class A line amplifier, bridging input impedance, balanced and floating; and a Class A, single ended, 2N3055 driven high headroom output stage. EQ adjustments include high frequency, +/-16dB shelving at 12 kHz, Baxandall type; low frequency, +/-16dB with selectable frequency shelving of 35Hz, 60Hz, 110Hz & 220Hz, Baxandall type; and mid frequency, +/-18dB peaking, fixed 'Q' , selectable center frequencies of 0.36kHz, 0.7kHz, 1.6kHz, 3.2kHz, 4.8kHz, and 7.2kHz, dual inductor based; with a high Pass Filter, 18dB per octave slope, switchable between 50Hz, 80Hz , 160 Hz & 300Hz, inductor based.
Meanwhile, Heritage has also developed a 500 Series/API VPR Alliance-compatible 1073 module (pictured) with “exactly zero compromises,” offers the company. In researching their first 500 Series product, “the first thing we noticed was how many compromises our competitors had to assume to fit their reproductions in such a small package. This meant making a 3U wide module capable of holding all three vintage-accurate transformers, dual concentric switches, push buttons and the same exact PCB cards -- no downsized knobs; no transformers left out; no ICs in place of discrete class A circuitry. Just what the faceplate says: it’s a 1073 in a 500 Series format.”
Price: $1,966.37 direct (limited time "special pricing" for either the 1073 or 1073-500, according to Heritage Audio)
