Alcons Audio Launches CRMS-SRHV Loudspeaker

The new CRMS range is Alcons Audio’s new group of solutions intended for use in modern studio and residential markets.

New York, NY (April 9, 2020)—Alcons Audio has launched a new two-way passive-filtered loudspeaker, the CRMS-SRHV.

The CRMS-SRHV was designed with the expectation of meeting all requirements of current and future immersive surround sound formats. The loudspeaker features Alcons’ patented pro-ribbon driver technology, and according to the manufacturer, due to the “compression-less” principle of the pro-ribbon transducer, the system has a linear response at any SPL.

The CRMS-SRHV is intended for immersive surround sound system use within performing arts theatres, screening rooms, post-production facilities and dubbing stages, premium home cinemas and PLF cinemas.

The CRMS-SRHV consists of the RBN401 pro-ribbon driver for HF and a vented eight-inch mid-bass for LF reproduction. The CRMS-SRHV/9090 HF section has an 800 W peak power input, reportedly enabling a 1:15 dynamic range with up to 90 percent less distortion from one kHz to beyond 20 kHz. The loudspeaker is said to offer broad coverage due to its patented (90-degrees) horizontal and patent-pending (90-degrees) vertical dispersion.

The CRMS-SRHV needs to be driven by an ALC controller-amplifier, which is available in an eight ohms and four ohms version.

Philip “Dr. Phil” De Haan, head of Alcons, commented: “The CRMS range is our separate group of solutions for the studio and residential markets. Following our compact immersive systems, with CRMS-SRHV, we now also have the versatile height or width channel solution for the larger studios, theatres and screening rooms.

“As we continue to upscale the possibilities of our patent-pending waveguide technology, we have optimized the four-inch RBN401 to bring the wide 90° x 90° dispersion into the CRMS range, while utilizing the exact same transducers for a perfect voicing-match throughout the CRMS family. We have already received very positive feedback from the first critical listening applications that deployed the system.”
