Santa Monica, CA (June 12, 2020)—Continuing its partnership with legendary mix engineer Bob Clearmountain, Apogee Electronics has released its new Clearmountain’s Spaces reverb plug-in.
The new offering aims to reproduce his personalized workflow, using the same echo chamber profiles and processing that was applied to records known around the world. Clearmountain’s work can be heard on recordings by iconic artists like David Bowie, Chic, Roxy Music, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams, INXS, Crowded House, Tears For Fears and many others.
The plug-in comes with three customized spaces; expert presets; a composite spaces mixer; input processing with a 3-band EQ, de-esser, and pre-delay; a real-time spaces visualizer; and more. The plug-in can be resized and works with both MacOS and Windows
While the plug-in includes impulse response room profiles of some of his favorite spaces, it also includes signal processing for shaping the sound before it hits the spaces, and then the ability to create composite spaces – mixing and layering spaces of different timbral characteristics and decay times for a unique result.
Within the input processing options, users can apply the de-esser to remove distracting sibilance for smooth and consistent Spaces. Next, using pre-delay separates the dry signal from the spaces signal to aid clarity and rhythmic interest, and then the 3-band EQ can be employed to de-clutter or alter the character of spaces.
As for those spaces themselves, the Clearmountain’s Spaces plug-in offers three: Apogee Studio, a short and warm ambience from Apogee’s in-house recording studio and development lab; Mix This, a medium-length, bright reverb from the physical echo chambers at Clearmountain’s Mix This! studio in Los Angeles; and Roscoe, an extra long and rich reverb captured in the L.A. studio of Bob’s friend.
Clearmountain’s Spaces runs $49 from the Apogee website and authorized dealers
