Leverkusen, Germany (April 8, 2020)—Brainworx Audio has launched the latest addition to its line of plug-ins that emulate the sounds of various Solid State Logic consoles. The bx_console SSL 9000 J aims to recreate the vibe of Solid State Logic’s large-format 9000 J Series console in an officially-approved plug-in, enabling users to build a 72-channel desk “in the box.”
Known for providing an extended bottom end, a more clean and open top end and additional distortion-free headroom, the original SSL 9000 J was popular for mixing pop, hip-hop, R&B and orchestral recordings. Aiming to emulate that ability, the new plug bx_console SSL 9000 J was developed using the original Solid State Logic 9000 J schematics and built by using component modeling in close collaboration with SSL engineers. Additional refinement of the emulation was provided by Grammy Award-winning mix engineer Michael Brauer, who helped Brainworx by matching the plug-in to the SSL 9000 J he personally used on Gold- and Platinum-selling records throughout his career.
Aiming to bring more to the plate, bx_console SSL 9000 J also sports plug-in-only features, such as continuously variable THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) and V Gain (virtual gain) controls to add saturation and/or simulated analog noise independently or globally — changeable across all plug-in instances. In addition to the original EQ, Dynamics, and Filters sections, it also features switchable EQ modes between E- and G-style filters.
Notable 9000 Series-only dynamics features such as ‘peak detect’ and expander/gate ‘hold’ are all present and correct, accessible via a scalable UI (User Interface) to adapt to various screen sizes and workflows.
