L-Acoustics Launches K3 System

Tipped as the bridge between the K2 and Kara II, the new L-Acoustics K3 is a compact, full-range enclosure for mid-sized events.

New York, NY (October 1, 2020)—L-Acoustics has launched its new K3 compact, full-range enclosure, intended for a main system for events of up to 10,000 people, or for use as outfills or delays for larger K1 or K2 systems.

Aiming to keep down pricing, size and weight, the L-Acoustics K3 essentially fits a dual 12”-based system into the form factor of a 10” design. “It is a ‘no compromises’ tool, perfectly adapted to the current event landscape,” said executive director of Application Design Florent Bernard, “and, when paired with K1 and K2, is quickly and powerfully scalable for large-capacity events.”

Going with the smaller enclosure design, the box is reportedly 33% smaller than a K2 and weighs 95 lbs., making it workable for mid-size tours, festivals, corporate events, religious services and other productions, as well as venues with space restrictions. L-Acoustics suggests that as a full-range system, the K3 does not require subwoofers in most cases, but can be suitably paired with KS28s for low end-heavy applications.

The new two-way active WST enclosure also includes laminar vents for low frequency response, and appropriate rigging. K3 also employs L-Acoustics Panflex technology, which offers a choice of four horizontal directivity patterns: 70° or 110° symmetrical or 90° asymmetrical on either side. This, along with inter-element angles ranging from 0° to 10°, allows the K3’s coverage to customized to a specific audience size and shape.

The K3 also uses a L-Acoustics DOSC waveguide for long-throw capability (>35 m/100 ft), and is said to offer a bandwidth of 42 Hz to 20 kHz (-10 dB, 70° directivity) and maximum SPL of 143 dB. One LA12X amplified controller can power up to six K3; accordingly, a single LA-RAK AVB unit can drive up to 18 K3.

The K3 is already shipping, according to L-Acoustics, and the company plans to deliver K3i, a fixed install version, in 2021.
