Santa Rose, CA (June 17, 2020)—Germany’s Sommer Cable has released its new SC-Semicolon 4 AES/EBU patch and microphone cable with aramid reinforcement.
Aimed for use by audio and stage engineers, Sommer’s new cable is a compact and durable version of an AES/EBU and DMX-capable microphone cable with an added mesh of aramid fibers worked into the outer jacket.

Aramid fibers are a class of heat-resistant and strong synthetic fibers. In addition to Sommer’s application, aramid fibers are used in aerospace and military applications, for ballistic-rated body armor fabric and ballistic composites, in marine cordage, and in marine hull reinforcement.
As a result, Sommer’s new aramid reinforcement for the SC-Semicolon cable is intended to serve as an extra strain relief, with an eye towards increasing the bending cycles and providing added durability. The result is a microphone cable that is expected to withstand damage in daily use on live sound, touring, house of worship, concert and other applications. The design is also aimed at broadcast and theater engineering use, and for applications with belt pull cable drums in location broadcast trucks or on theater stages. It’s also suitable for connecting effects devices and control units where a return signal is required.
