Seattle, WA (April 27, 2020) – Tracktion has released Waveform Pro, the latest edition of its long-running digital audio workstation. Highlights of the new version include features developed to harness the potential of multi-screen setups, touchscreens and user customization. Additionally, system stability has been improved with plug-in sandboxing.

Among the new features available, Waveform Pro introduces the User Interface Layout, allowing nearly any window panel to be undocked by the user to aid creating customized workspaces. A new Quick Action Bar assigns shortcut actions, including custom macros, while the Quick Action Window, designed with touchscreens in mind, allows multiple screens or touchscreens to be dedicated to a specific instrument, plug-in or app.

New additions to the composition tools include the Arranger Track, a tool intended to make the arrangement of musical ideas easier. Clips of a composition can be selectively created, named and colored for identification, then dragged and dropped into different parts of the work. Annotation and movement of entire pieces of work is now quick, aided by the Edit Overview, which helps navigation of musical pieces.

Waveform Pro ships with a set of five new MIDI tools. The Arpeggiator offers classic arpeggiation as well as control over timing and input, while Note Repeat allows notes to be repeated based on selected patterns and clock settings. Complex chords can be triggered with a single note using the Chord Companion. Meanwhile, the MIDI Monitor aids analysis and troubleshooting by listing all MIDI events as they occur, and the MIDI Filter works to filter out notes, effectively allowing two instruments to be played with one keyboard—one on the left side, one on the right.

Third-party plug-ins are invited to Waveform Pro with the implementation of Plug-in Sandboxing. When activated, if a plug-in crashes, the plug-in is deactivated rather than the host closing. In addition to sandboxing, the new DAW has had several ‘under the hood’ tweaks addressing stability, including one to automate crash reports. Perhaps underlining the DAW’s ability to handle plug-ins, 122 new Artisan Plug-ins have been added, including a DeEsser, new filters, a de-noise plug-in and more.
