Los Angeles, CA (June 6, 2013)—Sanken Microphones has announced the new Chromatic Series for studio recording, coinciding with the launch of the new Chromatic Series CU-55 cardioid microphone.
The Chromatic Series is intended to handle anything from rough sounds of metal bands to the supernatural realms of symphonic recording. The CU-55 is METAlliance Certified; METAlliance director Frank Filipetti remarked, "The CU-55 has just about the smoothest mid-range I've ever heard in any microphone. Whether using it on strings, vocals or drum overheads this mic has a wonderful presence without any harshness."
The CU-55 houses a side-firing 16mm capsule with a resonant chamber that has been tuned to create a cardioid pattern, and is omnidirectional below 50 Hz. The microphone is flat at 90 degrees and flat on axis, with reportedly very little proximity effect. Designed for acoustic instruments like guitars, cello, harp and piano, the CU-55 can also handle the levels of big brass and pounding tympani's.
Fellow METAlliance director Chuck Ainlay added, "Sanken's new CU-55 is very warm and natural, not hyped at all, and very musical. It's really great as a compact side-address mic and easy to maneuver into tight spaces."
The entire line of Chromatic Series microphones includes the Sanken CU-44X MkII, Sanken CU-41, Sanken CMS-2, Sanken CO-100K, Sanken CUW-180 and Sanken CU-55.
