TransAudio Group, exclusive U.S. distributor of Sonodyne active studio monitor speakers, has introduced the new two-way nearfield SM 200AK. The new SM 200AK monitor, the largest in Sonodyne’s Reference Series line, incorporates an eight-inch Kevlar woofer and one-inch metal dome tweeter, respectively powered by 150W and 100W class A/B amplifier modules, room compensation electronics, and a die-cast aluminum front baffle with non-parallel wood sides.
The active, bi-amped SM 200AK, which offers reproduction from 40 to 22,000 Hz, includes room-compensating bass and treble tilts (-2 dB, -4 dB, -6 dB @ 100 Hz, and -2 dB @ 15 kHz, respectively), bass roll-off (70 Hz, 6 dB/octave) and +/- 6 dB input sensitivity settings, selected via four DIP switches. "The electronics enable the user to manage difficult acoustical environments and compensate for quarter (corner), half (wall) and full space positioning of the monitors," explains TransAudio Group promotional materials.
The SM 200AK shares the design and construction attributes of the smaller monitors in the Reference Series. The SM 200AK measures 12.4 in. (314 mm) high x 16.9 in. (430 mm) wide x 12.7 in. (322 mm) deep. The net weight is 39.2 lb (17.8 kg).
