Thousand Oaks, CA (August 16, 2017)—Sterling Audio has announced its new line of microphones built for studio recording, including six individual microphones and a two-microphone package. Also unveiled were two new shock mounts; the SM5 can accommodate a variety of medium-body (1.2 to 1.7-inch) studio microphones, while the SM8 fits any Sterling large-diaphragm microphone.
Prices for the lineup range from $99.99 to $499.99 retail.
Central to Sterling’s new lineup is the ST170 Active Ribbon Microphone (pictured), which reportedly handles up to 132 dB SPL and is paired with the SM5 metal shock mount in an aluminum case. As a phantom-powered microphone, it is said to deliver a higher output level than standard passive ribbon choices.
Next, the ST169 Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone features a 1-inch diaphragm, and Class A circuitry, providing selectable cardioid, omni, and figure-8 polar patterns, switchable high-pass filter (HPF) and attenuation pad. Handling up to 142 dB SPL, the new mic comes with Sterling’s SM8 metal, band-suspension shock mount, aluminum carry case and power supply.
Also with a 1-inch diaphragm, the ST155 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone features a hand-assembled capsule and custom-wound transformer, switchable high-pass filter and attenuation pad. Reportedly handling up to 144 dB SPL, it also comes with the SM8 metal band-suspension shock mount and is enclosed in a custom-padded carry case.
The bi-patterned cardioid/hypercardioid ST131 Studio Instrument Condenser Microphone is also available with a custom-wound transformer and hand-assembled, 1-inch capsule, and the ST159 Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone offers selectable cardioid, omni, and figure-8 polar patterns.
Sterling also is shipping the SP150/130 Studio Condenser Microphone Pack, which provides two professional Class A FET cardioid microphones. The side-address SP150 reportedly delivers articulate and detailed vocal, instrument and speech recording, while the end-address SP130 instrument mic is designed to capture “fast transients with outstanding clarity.”
