South Windsor, CT (April 1, 2013)—Today, a number of pro audio manufacturers contacted us about new products that, frankly, left us incredulous. Rather than edit down their product announcements into PSN’s trademark, even-handed distillations that are free from marketing hype, today we’re making a rare exception and running these announcements ‘as-is’ so that you, our readers, can fully assess these unique products for yourselves, just as the manufacturers intended.
Telefunken Elektroakustik of South Windsor, CT is introducing the new ELA M 570—the world’s first large diaphragm vacuum tube microphone developed for 5.1 surround applications. Featuring five CK12 capsules positioned in a linear surround configuration, the ELA M 570 is capable of a multitude of co-incidental multi-channel recording techniques, including X/Y/X/Y/X, Quad-M/S+, and Blumlein “Umbrella”.
Five discrete balanced XLR outputs send audio to separate recorder tracks, mixer channels, etc. Advanced 5.1 hybrid matrix circuitry is built into the microphone using micro-tube technology and can be remotely operated via a state-of-the-art smart phone app. The ELA M570 delivers the audio quality and surround capturing flexibility that is ideal for feature film audio, broadcast audio, sound design, and large scale concert recording.
Renowned microphone designer Dr. Alfred E. Neumann, a key member of the ELA M 570 design team, explained, “Our new 5-channel C12 capsule array is incredibly detailed, capturing all the subtle nuances of a performance and transferring them back to the listener in a manner that is so realistic, you’ll think you’re listening in five directions at once. Its silky smooth top end provides plenty of air without sounding harsh or zippy. Its midrange speaks clearly and articulately, capturing the sources with a natural presence. Its low end is tight and big-bottom, perfectly balanced with the rest of the frequency range. These qualities make the ELA M 570 surround mic a fantastic choice for all types of instruments, lending itself well to bagpipes, harmonica, electric drums, cowbell, and large organs.”
The new Telefunken ELA M 570 system is now shipping, complete with shock mount, cable, flight case, power supply, and lugnuts. MSRP: $39,995
