Scotts Valley, CA (March 15, 2017)—Universal Audio has unveiled its UAD Software version 9.1 featuring the SSL 4000 E Channel Strip. The original Solid State Logic 4000 E console was introduced to the professional studio world in 1979 and today stands as arguably the most popular recording console in audio production history due to its signature sound, workflow and bevy of unique features.
According to UA, the SSL 4000 E Channel Strip Collection for UAD-2 hardware and Apollo interfaces was developed in close partnership with SSL themselves as an exact end-to-end circuit emulation “that goes far beyond UA’s original SSL E Channel Strip plug-in.” Of note, UA engineers “faithfully modeled the original preamp’s Jensen input transformers and dbx "gold-can" VCA output section,” continues UA promotional materials. “By capturing the preamp’s signature nonlinear amp behaviors, the new SSL 4000 E Channel Strip Collection offers all of the expansive, punchy, deep, assertive character of the original hardware.”
UA Apollo users can track in real time with SSL’s vintage analog channel. The SSL 4000 E Channel Strip Collection plug-in also supports Universal Audio’s Unison technology, allowing Apollo users the SSL 4000 E’s impedance, gain staging, and circuit behaviors.
Other key features are as follows: Jensen transformer and Input amplifier modeling and other nonlinear circuit behaviors; nonlinear circuit emulation of both Type E “black” and “brown” knob channel EQ and filters; and a flexible VCA Compressor range. A “DSP-lite” SSL E Series Channel Strip Legacy plug-in is included, too.
The new SSL 4000 E Channel Strip Collection is $299; an upgrade from UA’s legacy SSL E Series Channel Strip is $149. The new SSL Collection is part of UAD Software version 9.1, also offering the Moog Multimode Filter Collection, OTO BISCUIT 8-bit Effects, Fuchs Overdrive Supreme 50 Amplifier, Brainworx bx_subsynth Subharmonic Synth, Thunderbolt multi-unit with Windows 10, and Console 2 for Apollo FireWire multi-unit upgrades.
