Eric Valentine, and his new company Undertone Audio, has designed an analog recording console. The multi-platinum record producer has teamed up with Larry Jasper, formerly of Quad Eight and GML, to develop a Class-A, single-ended parametric EQ that offers surgical control over the incoming audio's frequency spectrum.
The (patent applied for) ATWS—Acoustically Transparent Work Surface—reportedly combats the problem of the sound from the nearfield monitors reflecting off the console, causing severe aberrations in the midrange. By using a porous metal to create the surface of the console, almost no sound is reflected, providing a more accurate representation of what is actually coming from the speakers.
