UA’s new interfaces sport new A/D conversion, faster processing and more.

Scotts Valley, CA (September 7, 2018)—Calling it the “biggest leap forward” ever for its Apollo line, Universal Audio has released its new Apollo X Series of Thunderbolt 3 rackmount audio interfaces.

The family of four units—x16, x8p, x8 and x6—has a number of new features, including “elite-class” A/D and D/A conversion and HEXA Core processing, featuring six UAD DSP processors, reportedly yielding 50% more DSP for running UAD Powered Plug-Ins in real time.

The flagship x16 sports a 133 dB dynamic range, while the other three have a range of 129 dB . The x8p, x8 and x6 respectively feature eight, four and two Unison-enabled mic preamps; the three units offer preamp emulations from Neve, API, Manley, Fender, and more using Unison technology .

The units also offer selectable +24 dBu operating levels, and Surround Sound monitoring support for 5.1 and 7.1 formats, which will debut in coming months, complete with speaker calibration and fold‑down. Also provided are an integrated talkback microphone and built-in cues for communication and slating takes.

Also included are a raft of Realtime Analog Classics Plus UAD plug-ins: 610-B Tube Preamp & EQ, legacy LA-2A, 1176, and Fairchild compressors, Pultec EQs, Marshall Plexi Classic, Ampeg SVT-R Classic Bass Amp and others.

The x16 ($3,499), x8p ($2,999), x8 ($2,499) and x6 ($1,999) are currently shipping.
