Inspired by Dolby’s Cat. 43 hardware noise-reduction tool, long out of production, Waves Audio’s W43 noise-reduction plug-in uses multiband noise reduction for the reduction or removal of ambient noises like hiss, hum and traffic, wind and air-conditioning sound. The primary application is expected to be dialogue recording.
The 4-band noise-suppression virtual controls include four faders, a global threshold and an “engage” button, as with the original Cat. 43. The W43 is both Windows- and Mac-compatible, supporting multiple simultaneous instances, full recall, zero latency, full automation, up to 24-bit, 192 kHz resolution and support for TDM, RTAS, Audio Suite, VST and AU.
The plug-in is available separately $300 Native/$600 TDM) and as part of the Waves Mercury bundle. Mercury V7 owners covered by Waves Update Plan receive the W43 at no additional charge.
Price: $300 and $600 (Native and TDM, respectively)
