AES hints at AES Vienna cancellation due to coronavirus; suspends further registrations

The Austrian Government has banned gatherings of more than 100 people

With the coronavirus outbreak increasing rapidly and the subsequent risk of large gatherings and travel, many trade shows and events are being affected. Already, Prolight + Sound 2020 was postponed to May 26-29 – dates that clash with AES Vienna – and NAB 2020 was cancelled after Avid pulled out. The Audio Engineering Society has issued a statement about the impact of coronavirus on AES Vienna that hints at its cancellation, especially considering the Austrian Government has banned indoor gatherings of over 100 people.

The statement is as follows: “The Audio Engineering Society is considering all options in relation to the global response to COVID-19 and its impact on the Society’s upcoming International Pro Audio Convention in Vienna, Austria. AES’s board of directors is working quickly to evaluate the options, especially in light of the Austrian Government’s recent decree banning indoor gatherings of more than 100 people. The safety of our members, attendees, participants, and staff is the highest priority.

“We will send an update to you as soon as decisions have been made. In the meantime, the Society has suspended all further registrations and suggests that attendees and prospective participants refrain from finalising travel arrangements. We appreciate your patience and understanding.”

Stay tuned for updates on the situation.
