ISE 2019: Apex to launch amplifier module with integrated DSP

The SMA-1 amplifier module provides customisable self-powered OEM solutions for active 2-way loudspeaker manufacturers

Apex has already made a stand in DSP-based audio technology with its Intelli-Series system processors, and are now set to introduce the Class D SMA-1 amplifier module with integrated DSP at ISE 2019, stand 3-C125.

The SMA-1 offers a customisable turnkey solution for 2-way active loudspeakers, it is purpose-built, and easily adapted to customer requirements. It combines a switch-mode power supply, two Class D power amplifiers (1 x 500W + 1 x 150W), integrated DSP and all the necessary analogue circuitry optimised for sonic performance on a single, compact and lightweight PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) module.

The most basic customer implementation comprises a single line input, a link output, a volume knob and status LEDs for signalling power, signal and limit. Customisation is achieved through the input connector on the PCB, which enables extra input sources such as microphone inputs, Bluetooth, and even networked audio, as well as allowing you to determine the layout of connectors and controls, be it a graphic display or LED indicators. Dante audio networking is available as an option, as well as remote control via Apex’s Intelli-Ware software.

The integrated DSP allows the user to implement custom filter algorithms, thereby creating their unique sound signature without having to worry about the hardware or any interconnections. Users can connect an input signal – analogue, digital or even wireless – link the loudspeakers and plug it into the mains in any country and play.

According to Apex managing director, Paul Van Hees, SMA-1 is an extremely valuable addition to the company’s portfolio. “We’ve always been good at electronics and we have a long history of providing innovative yet reliable custom solutions. SMA-1 is exactly that – it’s such a neat solution for manufacturers looking for self-powered amplifier modules. It offers them everything they need, from the most basic to the most sophisticated solution, in a high quality, ultra-compact and extremely affordable format. What’s not to like!”
