Netherlands venue De Effenaar revamps with SSL

At ISE 2019, the team confirmed an order of four SSL Live L200s, one SSL L100, and a massive 348 channels of SSL SuperAnalogue mic preamps

Music venue De Effenaar, based in technology capital of the Netherlands, Eindhoven, has selected SSL to renew its audio system.

The venue has a history spanning nearly 50 years, its two performance spaces having hosted an array of major artists including The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Florence + The Machine, Editors, Nelly, Stromae, Queens of the Stone Age, The Ramones, Pearl Jam, R.E.M. and The Cure.

Towards the end of 2018, De Effenaar established the need to upgrade its audio inventory, and the technical team evaluated all of the live sound consoles on the market. At ISE 2019, the team confirmed an order of four SSL Live L200s, one SSL L100, and a massive 348 channels of SSL SuperAnalogue mic preamps.

According to De Effenaar’s senior audio engineer, Sven de Hoog, the team of engineers had individually scored four shortlisted brands as part of the evaluation, in nine different categories, ranging from ease of use to available features and sonic quality.

“SSL consistently scored the highest in all the categories, with an impressive 13 ‘maximum available points’,” de Hoog explained. “We’re all so excited. The sound of the consoles is killer, and they are so easy to use, which is essential for guest engineers.”

Head of production, Jeroen Gerits, confirmed it was a unanimous decision to opt for SSL Live. “These are excellent consoles in their own right, but equally important is the advanced yet mature Dante implementation, which is key to the overall integration of all AV systems at De Effenaar,” Gerits said. “The city of Eindhoven, ‘the Silicon Valley of the Netherlands’, has innovation at its heart, being at the forefront of technology. Similarly, De Effenaar is a smart venue, and SSL fits that ambition perfectly.”

Consoles, racks, and system integration will be handled by Audio Electronics Mattijsen (AEM), SSL’s Dutch distributor. AEM’s Rafael Nagelkerke added: “We are most delighted that the De Effenaar team recognised SSL Live’s qualities, and the solutions we presented to their specific requests and workflows. With Paradiso in Amsterdam, Patronaat in Haarlem, and now De Effenaar in Eindhoven, it has been firmly demonstrated that SSL Live is equally at home as a house console in venues for visiting guest engineers, as it is in top-tier international tours.”
