Start-up UK operation Formidable Audio is to reveal its MkIII Turbosound Flashlight system to the touring and live production market later this month.
Following A/B testing of the system at the Millennium A Stage in Bedfordshire, further modifications and improvements have been made and now the refurbished enclosures are ready to face their audience at Troxy, 490 Commercial Road, London on 23 November 2015.
The launch event will take the format of an A/B shootout between the upgraded Flashlight system and an independently supplied and tuned d&b audiotechnik J-Series line array. Formidable director Brandon Knights says the J was chosen because it is “a fine example of a current line array system”.
“The emphasis of the event will be to give listeners the opportunity to decide which system they believe delivers the best sonic experience,” says Knights. “Formidable Audio believes that an alternative is long overdue in a market that is saturated with line arrays, especially when that alternative has the potential to thrill audiences and empower sound engineers.”
There will be three listening sessions on the day, at 16:30, 18:00 and 19:30. Each showcase will follow the same format:
– Short introduction from Phil Ward (writer and columnist)
– Introduction to the d&b J-Series from Eighth Day Sound
– Introduction to the MkIII Turbosound Flashlight from Brandon Knights
– Thirty minutes of A/B testing with audio playback through both systems alternately
– Fifteen minutes of Q&A from the floor
Afterwards, there will be 30 minutes of downtime in which guests will be invited to discuss matters arising with the organiser and hear quick-fire A/B demos with further source material.
“This is a unique opportunity to hear these two systems side-by-side, an opportunity that is being presented for the first time publicly,” added Knights.
Formed around three years ago by Knights and business partner James Barden, Formidable has been procuring and rejuvenating a large inventory of Turbosound Flashlight speakers in order to make them available for hire to the live sound market.
