Hollywood club unveils Powersoft-propelled “largest subwoofer installation”

Club owner worked with EAW engineers to create "earth-crushing" bass

The famous Avalon club in Hollywood has upgraded with what is claimed to be the “world’s largest subwoofer club installation”. The new system, designed “over two years” by club owner John Lyons and audio engineers from loudspeaker specialist EAW, features Powersoft’s M-Force technology.

“It creates earth-crushing sub-bass,” says Lyons.

Each speaker cabinet includes a 40″ Powersoft cone – allegedly, the largest ever. Lyons and EAW were able to use such a large cone by incorporating Powersoft’s patented M-Force moving magnet linear motor technology into the cabinets, which enabled more air movement with a “faster response time and zero power compression”.

M-Force is a method of acoustic transduction characterised by a moving magnet and ‘push-pull’ behavior. This application of positive and negative electromagnetic fields allows for the motor to oscillate at an “unprecedented level”, claims Powersoft.

Each subwoofer cabinet (there are six in total) also contains two Powersoft M-Drive modules, which are used to supply power for the M-Force motor, the cone and each of the traditional speakers. The M-Drive is able to generate 15,000 watts at 2 ohms.

These cabinets add to the ‘Avalon by EAW’ Sound System, which John Lyons also designed in conjunction with EAW. The complete set-up was unveiled during the recent Grammy Weekend celebrations.
