IBC2014: New SoundField range to make debut two years after TSL buyout

The new mics and systems incorporate features like self-testing, alarming and correction capabilities "that allow accurate monitoring when capturing audio at live broadcast events"

TSL Products will unveil new models in the SoundField DSF Digital Broadcast surround sound microphone range at IBC2014 in Amsterdam. TSL announced its acquisition of the microphone/audio processing manufacturer at IBC2012, and the new products launching at this year’s show represent the fruits of the two-year-old partnership.

Incorporating major new features like self-testing, alarming and correction capabilities that allow “accurate monitoring […] when capturing audio at live broadcast events,” the new range includes updates to the DSF-2 MKII digital surround/stereo mic and DSF-3 MKII digital surround processor – incorporating a wide range of system self-tests, and support for a number of object-based audio formats, respectively – and the launch of the brand-new DSF-1 MKII microphone, aimed at music recording, and the DSF-B MKII system (pictured), which encompasses the DSF-2 MKII microphone and DSF-3 MKII processor and performs B-Format reversal detection and auto-correction when connected.

Both the DSF-2 MKII and DSF-3 MKII are now fully integrated into the SoundField Remote App, giving users a single piece of software for control and firmware updates and access to all the control unit’s functionality (including mic-pre gain, limiter on/off, HPF, stereo polar and stereo width). The new models offer both Ethernet and USB connectivity to interface with the SoundField Remote App, as well as a new front panel design based around an LCD display.

Pieter Schillebeeckx, product manager at SoundField, comments: “Whether recording in an intimate concert venue or a stadium, sound engineers need to know that the audio quality is the best it can be. The ability to self test for anomalies or issues and correct them instantaneously is an important new feature for the SoundField range.”

The DSF-1/2/3 MKII will be available for demonstration on stand 10.B41 at the 2014 International Broadcasting Convention.
