Inovonics Model 718 David-III

What is it?A combined multiband audio processing and digital-synthesis stereo generator. DetailsThe David-III processor uses pulse-width modulation techniques to ensure stable operation and a “competitive, yet effortless” sound. Density and equalisation adjustments allow the broadcaster to tailor the ‘signature’ of the on-air sound. Proprietary PIPP final limiting and an adjustable composite clipper guarantee full carrier modulation for any program audio source or characteristic. Digital synthesis of the multiplex baseband signal is designed to provide optimum stereo separation and ensure adjustment-free, stable operation.
 The David-III is said to be easy to install and use without the need for external test equipment. Audio inputs are provided through two XLR connectors on the rear panel while the composite output is via BNC socket. A set of internal jumpers can be used to set operating levels (-15 to 0V or 0 to +10V). All other parameters are adjusted using front-panel controls. These include ‘Master Drive’ which determines the drive level to 3-band processor and further controls for ‘Bass’ and ‘Brilliance’ which, unlike conventional eq controls designed to determine the relative energy at either end of the audio spectrum. The Model 718 David-lll incorporates Polarity-Independent Peak Processing technology which allows full negative and positive deviation of the carrier with every type of material, while the built-in composite clipper operates over a 3dB range to maximise loudness. Both input and output trim controls are set from the front panel using screwdriver-adjustable multi-turn pre-sets. Three bands of peak-weighted limiting adopt a secondary ‘platform’ function of furnishing average-level compression of program dynamics. The processor offers 20Hz-15kHz frequency response (±0.5dB) and a noise figure better than 70dB below 100% modulation in decoded L/R audio.
