Urban Development founder Pamela McCormick to receive Special Recognition at 2020 MPG Awards

The organisation has been supporting and providing opportunities for the urban music community for more than 20 years

Urban Development founder Pamela McCormick will be honoured with the 2020 Special Recognition award at this year’s MPG Awards, PSNEurope can exclusively reveal.

McCormick with be presented with the prestigious award on Thursday night (February 27) at the 2020 MPG Awards, which will be held at London’s Grosvenor House.

Since launching in 1996, Urban Development has been working to provide greater opportunities for the urban music community, supporting young people from a diverse array of backgrounds and assisting them in connecting with the wider music industry. The organisation works with everyone from artists and producers to record labels and managers.

Speaking to PSNEurope, McCormick commented: It feels amazing to win this award, and it really feels like the organisation’s work has been supported by the wider music industry. We are now part of an ecosystem that is increasingly recognising the need to provide talent development for a diverse group of young people. We’ve come a very long way from the tiny project that we started in 1996. But over that 20-plus year span the music industry has shifted massively, our funding partners have shifted and the range of people who support us has shifted enormously. We have myriad music industry partners, including a longstanding relationship with Universal, we work with Bucks Music, Believe, the BRITs, UK Music and the BPI. Our world is now much closer to the industry and its desire to engage with diverse young people.”

Dan Cox, executive director at the MPG, added: “We are delighted to be honouring Pamela at this year’s MPG Awards in recognition of the outstanding work she has done supporting and educating the next generation of musical talent in the UK. In Urban Development Pamela has created a pipeline that brings underground new music to the music industry at large, enriching and diversifying it in the process”
